The short-scar facelift has become very popular with the baby boomer generation. In the mid to late forties, aging is usually noticeable in the mid-face region while there are fewer signs of aging and excess skin around the jaw line and neck. If you fit this description, you may be an ideal candidate for a short scar facelift.
In a short scar procedure, all the areas of the face that show signs of aging are repositioned. Your facial structure plays a large part in the exact placement of the incisions as well as your surgeon's strategy in approaching the procedure.
A facelift can successfully remove the most visible signs of aging by removing excess fat, tightening underlying muscles, and re-draping the skin of your face and neck. The best candidate for a face lift is a man or woman whose face and neck have begun to sag, but whose skin still has some elasticity and whose bone structure is strong and well-defined.
Your facelift can be performed with other facial plastic surgeries including neck lift, eyelid lift and more. In addition, to address wrinkles around your mouth, a facial using Intense Pulsed Light (IPL) for facial resurfacing can be added.

A facelift usually takes several hours. For extensive procedures, I may schedule two separate sessions.
In the short scare facelift, the internal soft tissue is adjusted separately from the skin that covers it. Immediately following your facelift, you may experience temporary bruising, swelling, numbness and tenderness of skin; tight feeling, or dry skin. You can resume work within 10 to 14 days, and return to more strenuous activity within 2 or more weeks. Bruising can last 2 to 3 weeks, and you must limit exposure to sun for several months.

I have done just the face lift alone, or in conjunction with a forehead lift, eyelid surgery, neck lift and nose reshaping. It all depends on the individualized results you are looking for, which we'll explore during your private consultation.
Working with a board certified plastic surgeon, chances are excellent that you'll be happy with your face lift. Certification through by the American Board of Plastic Surgery (ABPS) means your surgeon has had formal training in an accredited plastic surgery residency program, has completed at least five years of surgical residency training after medical school, including at least two years in plastic surgery, has passed comprehensive cosmetic and reconstructive surgery exams and is qualified to perform cosmetic and reconstructive procedures - everything from facelifts to intricate wound repair.
